The first meeting of what is now Western Canada Water took place at the Royal Alexandra Hotel on September 1, 1948. The 34 attendees became the founding members of the Western Canada Water and Sewage Conference and the very first conference was held September 26, 1949 at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina. The original “programme” included topics like “Water Coagulation” and the “Regina-Moose Jaw Water Supply Project.” By 1950, the association had 152 members.
Today, Western Canada Water has almost 6000 members from across the Prairie Provinces and Northern Territories. Our 2018 technical program boasts topics like “Building a SCADA System Using Cloud Computing and Cellular Communications” and “Utilizing a High Density Survey 3D Laser Scanner for Surface Water Flow Modelling.”
The spirit of the original association still remains; to bring together water professionals from Western Canada to exchange ideas and to learn from the experience of others. We hope you’ll join in Winnipeg from September 18-21, 2018 as we celebrate our 70th anniversary. Please visit the conference website for more information on the technical program, exhibition, networking events and registration.
